Meet the Founder & Family Care Coordinator
Hi! I’m Mary.
I am the first person you will speak to when you set up your initial consult & the one who sets all of our families up with their postpartum care team.
In 2016, when I started my journey as a new postpartum doula, I had a vision to support families like yours & to build a team that was not only empathetic and intuitive to the needs of the families we serve, but who was professional and who maintained a standard of excellence in our industry. I hope that in having us in your home, you will see for yourself that we have succeeded to do so. Because there should be no other standard when it comes to the care of you and your baby.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
We do not take the care of our families lightly! When an individual reaches out and expresses interest in working with us, there are several steps taken to ensure that they are not only a reliable & safe person to place in the homes of our families, but also someone who maintains the level of care that we are well-known for.
Requirements for working with Oh Baby! KC are:
Up-to-date background check,
Proof of Postpartum Doula or Newborn Care Specialist training/certification,
2 reference letters,
Proof of liability insurance,
Infant CPR Certification (renewed every 2 yrs)
Many of our professionals have backgrounds as nannies, au pairs, nurses, teachers, student midwives, and of course, moms. -
Your doula's main priority will be to help you get as much sleep as possible, but she's also there to make your life a little easier. Outside of the hours of 10pm and 6am, as long as your baby is content, she's happy to fold some laundry or do a few dishes/wash bottles.
-
We always pair our families with a team of doulas! The size of the team is dependent on how many nights per week a family is needing, but generally, teams consist of 3 doulas. This way, we have flexibility within the schedule and backup options in case someone is sick or out of town. We also have doulas who solely provide backup care in the case of all the doulas on a team being unavailable.
-
You absolutely can! Around 2 months before your due date, your team will be finalized and they will reach out to you to say hello. How you proceed from there is entirely up to you! You can do a phone call or a FaceTime, coordinate with them a time to meet at your home, or you can meet them when they arrive for their first shifts - whatever is most convenient and comfortable for you!
-
We don't *expect* to get much sleep while on a job, but as long as your baby's needs are met and asleep in a safe sleep environment, your doula can catch a nap as well. We do require that a comfortable, flat surface (sofa, air mattress, guest bed) be provided for our doulas.
-
Your doulas will come prepared with anything they think they'll need. We do ask that you provide a comfortable place for the doulas to sleep/rest during their shift.
-
There are a few things that are outside of our scope of practice. Those being: Giving medical advice, issuing medication to you or your baby, driving you or your children anywhere, or scrubbing toilets (We can refer you to a great house cleaning business or two though!)
-
First of all, we want you to be 100% comfortable with the people you invite into your home! If any of your doulas do not meet your expectations in any way - even if it just feels like a personality clash - reach out to Mary and she will help you with a solution! We have a team of 15 Postpartum & Newborn Care Doulas - we will be able to find the perfect fit for you & your needs.
-
Yes, all of our team members are Postpartum Doulas. This is the baseline training we require, however many of our doulas have completed other training beyond their doula certificates such as Newborn Care Specialist, Sleep Coach, Lactation Counselor and more!
-
If you would like to verify any of the doulas you are paired with, you are welcome to request references! Each of our doulas have past families who are happy to vouch for them and provide peace of mind for other families.
-
There are multiple things that are considered when it comes to building your team!
During your consult, Mary will ask you about your values when it comes to what you are looking for in a care provider, as well as any additional expertise you think you may need. If you would like to book someone with Sleep Coaching or Lactation expertise, we will do our best to ensure someone on your team is able to meet your needs.
Availability & location does come into play as well. But with our team, you can be guaranteed that everybody who steps foot in your home will take excellent care of you and your baby.
