Jessica Biehl
Postpartum Doula | Daytime Support | Overnight Support
Where are you from and what brought you to Kansas City?
I am originally from Mississippi. I met my husband in South Dakota in the fall of 2020. He was living, at the time, here in KC. I had been in South Dakota working for the summer and fall, and he had come out to hike and explore the area. After meeting each other we kept talking and falling in love every day for the next 2 years. Finally after hours of calls, video chats, and several visits, we decided we couldn't be apart any longer, and I moved to Kansas City and we got married this summer.
What services do you provide and what made you interested in working with new families?
I am a certified Postpartum Doula. I am also certified in Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR. I am inspired to help families get some much needed rest and to be there to listen and provide emotional support through this journey as well as the practical stuff like making sure the family is eating well and the home environment is clean and serene. Also, I love cuddling babies!
What is your background in?
I have spent most of my life working as a chef specializing in bread, croissants, and desserts. I have always loved cooking, and I enjoy nurturing and nourishing people.
I opened my own restaurant in 2016, and I loved working on wedding and birthday cakes and doing events and cooking outside. A few years later, I started having some health problems and finally found that I was gluten intolerant and allergic to dairy; however, my love for cooking hadn’t changed and I started experimenting with other flours and milk alternatives, and I found that I was really passionate about helping others with the same issues.
I was at a pool party one afternoon and someone recommended a couple of books that started me down the path of thinking about becoming a doula. I only wished I had had all the information from these books when I was raising my son (now 21). This really made me want to help other mothers and families. We once shared our homes with other women, oftentimes still living with our mothers, sisters, husband’s mother, and even sometimes a grandmother too. I want to help mommas feel like they are not so isolated, like they have someone looking out for them, someone to help. I would like to provide support to new parents, offering them a sense of assurance that they're not alone in their journey. I would like to be a dependable ally, ready to lend a helping hand and ensure that families embark on their new chapters with confidence and positivity.
What are 3 of your strengths?
I am very patient. I am a compassionate listener, and I’m resourceful. I'm very good at finding creative solutions to challenges or obstacles.
What are 3 things you enjoy doing?
I love to spend time with my family, go camping, cook on fires, hike, sew, garden, watch movies, learn new things, and travel.
