Our Doulas:

  • We do not take the care of our families lightly! When an individual reaches out and expresses interest in working with us, there are several steps taken to ensure that they are not only a reliable & safe person to place in the homes of our families, but also someone who maintains the level of care that we are well-known for.

Requirements for working with Oh Baby! KC are:

    Up-to-date background check,

Proof of Postpartum Doula or Newborn Care Specialist training/certification,

    2 reference letters,

    Proof of liability insurance,

Infant CPR Certification (renewed every 2 yrs)

Many of our professionals have backgrounds as nannies, au pairs, nurses, teachers, student midwives, and of course, moms.

  • Your doula's main priority will be to help you get as much sleep as possible, but she's also there to make your life a little easier. Outside of the hours of 10pm and 6am, as long as your baby is content, she's happy to fold some laundry or do a few dishes/wash bottles.

  • Yes! We want you to feel comfortable with the people you invite into your home. Your doula team will reach out to say hello around a month before your due date. From there, you can either talk to them on a phone call or a video chat. If for some reason you don't believe one of the doulas are a good fit, reach out to Mary & she will make changes to your team.

  • We don't *expect* to get much sleep while on a job, but as long as your baby's needs are met and asleep in a safe sleep environment, your doula can catch a nap as well.

  • Your doulas will come prepared with anything they think they'll need. We do ask that you provide a comfortable place for the doulas to sleep/rest during their shift.

  • We always pair our families with a team of doulas! The size of the team is dependent on how many nights per week a family is needing, but generally, teams consist of 3 doulas. This way, we have flexibility within the schedule and backup options in case someone is sick or out of town. We also have doulas who solely provide backup care in the case of all the doulas on a team being unavailable.

  • There are a few things that are outside of our scope of practice. Those being: Giving medical advice, issuing medication to you or your baby, driving you or your children anywhere, or scrubbing toilets (We can refer you to a great house cleaning business or two though!)

Scheduling:

  • Yes. If you start out with any number of nights, but decide that you need more, we can take a look at our availability & adjust our schedule accordingly. However, it is often easier to start out with more than you think you'll need & bump down. Worst case scenario would be if you asked for more & our schedules are full - you'd need to be added to a waitlist for those additional nights.

  • We specialize in immediate postpartum support. Our services are prioritized for families in the first 12 weeks after giving birth, so we definitely don’t recommend waiting for too long! Most of our families start with us within the first 2 weeks of their birth depending on family members visiting, partners going back to work, etc.

  • Absolutely! We understand that every baby and postpartum experience is different. So if you start out thinking you might only need a month, but decide you need more, you are welcome to stay for as long as 12 weeks.

  • We are currently fully booking up 4-6 months in advance on average, while some parents-to-be are booking us when they start to try to get pregnant! Don’t wait until after your baby arrives to start the process. If you wait until last minute, you may not be able to book us at all.

Payment:

  • The retainer is based on the first week of requested services and holds your place with us. We do not hold spots for families without a signed contract & paid retainer. The retainer is applied to your first week of services & you will be invoiced weekly for the upcoming week based on your requested weekly schedule. If you choose to cancel services before you start, the retainer in non-refundable.

  • We totally understand that sometimes, babies are easier than we expected them to be. However, due to the nature of this work & how we schedule our families, you can choose to discontinue using the services, but once you pay for a week, we do not issue refunds.

  • When you receive an invoice, you will have the option to pay via credit card or PayPal.

  • No. Gratuities are never expected, but there is an option to leave one on each invoice if you choose to do so.
